How To Take Shilajit

Updated: Feb 24

Shilajit is an indigenous mass formed as a viscous black substance of Ayurvedic origin coming out of rocks in Asian mountains. Derived from humus soil and plant residues which are in a richly mineralized region, it is composed of over 80 minerals and trace elements that have many nutritional and healing values if ingested.

Dosage

Shilajit is extremely potent, and therefore, it is required in small portions to effect. The appropriate dose depends on the delivery format (resin or powder), your body weight, and the condition you aim to improve:

  • Shilajit Powder Dosage: 250mg to 500mg per day

  • Shilajit Resin Dosage: Small piece, about 1 as the size of one pea and is worth 100-200mg.

As a general guideline:

  • Dosage for maintenance/wellness: of the powder formulation, 250mg/day; of the resin formulation, 100mg/day

  • Dosage for targeting specific issues: Depending on preparation forms, up to 500 mg of powder or 200 mg of resin as a single dosage per day.

So, depending on your body weight and requirements, modify it accordingly. This means also starting at a low level and gradually adding in more consistently over time. Dose limits the intake amount to 500mg per day in case of no medical advice.

Usage

Here are the top practices to follow when taking shilajit to ensure proper absorption and effectiveness:

Add Powder Form To Warm Water

However, if you are going to take it in powder form, this should be dissolved in a small glass of warm, but not hot, purified or distilled water. The best temperature is between 98-100°F . Cold water is not a very effective solution to dissolve shilajit into liquid as it forms a quite hard consistency.

This does not require any cooking; just mix, and you can take it right away. Feel free to customize the taste by adding honey, lemon juice or sea salt. The combination of the ingredients should yield a dark brown solution.

Take it Before Meals.

To get the best of it, shilajit should be consumed 45 minutes before the meals in the morning, preferably.

It is also important to avoid the consumption of shilajit after consuming high-calorie meals since digestion will hinder absorption. This is when the usage is twice daily, in the morning and afternoon; do not take the next dose for three to four hours after eating.

Cycle Your Shilajit Intake

More so one should onset and offset shilajit rather than conducting long-term use of this product or supplement. An example cycle is going for three months and then a one-month break. Or take every day for II weeks, then abstain for 1-2 weeks, then take again.

Cycling helps relieve pressure from your body and does not allow for an exceptionally high accumulation at any one time.

Always Pack Well In a Cooler Environment

It is recommended to store shilajit in its original sealed pouch or pack to protect the beneficial components of this wonder of nature and then transfer it to an airtight glass jar to maintain good freshness and retain the products away from direct sunlight, moisture, steam, heat or humidifying apparatus. It thickens at cooler temperatures below 95°F (35°C) – this will not hurt it, but at higher temperatures, it can lead to leakage or dosing problems. Preservation in this way makes it very viable because refrigeration extends the minimum shelf-life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Should Shilajit be consumed daily?

A: Research shows that daily shilajit is safe to consume for most individuals and, if taken in doses of up to 500 milligrams a day, free of significant side effects for healthy individuals. Gentle gastrointestinal upset, dizziness, or headache may develop, though these are relatively rare. Intakes greater than 1000mg in the long term may lead to a build-up of heavy metals in the system. In cycling the supplement is wise and helps to eliminate situations where it leads to overstimulation.

Q: Shilajit compatibility – Can it be combined with other supplements or medication?

A: It is advisable to consult your doctor before taking shilajit with fulvic acid so as not to cause any interference with prescription drugs such as blood thinners, sedatives, or suppressant drugs that weaken the immune system. It should not be taken within 2 hours of other supplements. It is better to take it on an empty stomach so it’s important to have at least half an hour apart from other vitamins, minerals, herbs or drugs.

Q: Who Should Avoid It?

Based on clinical evidence, users who are taking high blood pressure and diabetes medication should avoid Shilajit. Those with excess levels of iron in their blood, pregnant women, and minors should also avoid consuming shilajit. Women with elevated androgens like testosterone may want to avoid taking it.
